THE MAWA’S TUK TUK AMBULANCE HISTORY

”The dream to have the ambulance was born when I took a child who had fallen into a fire to the hospital. It was the 15th person I had taken to doctors at all hours. The villagers knew I could not turn them away if they came for help. So I put my idea on Facebook and within a week I had donations of 3.000$ to get the ambulance”.
That was the dream by our Mawa member in Malawi, Pani Koudounaris, and now comes true.
A lot of people have to walk or be carried on a bicycle for miles to receive help in this country, so this is our small support to help them.
Also with the “tuk-tuk ambulance crowdfunding action” carried out by our also MAWA member, Cova Rodríguez in UK, (walking near 600 km in the streets of her town, Cheltenham, during 1 month) Mawa could raise another 3.874,34€ for the project. Our NGO has contacted three hospitals in the central area of Malawi and they have agreed to allow the “Tuk Tuk ambulance” to enter the emergency area. Cova wanted to feel in her own flesh what a sick person feels when has to walk a long distance to receive healthcare.
