The We Change the World model
MAWA gives support to WCW, our social company that has developed a permaculture and reforestation model specifically designed taking in consideration the environmental, socio-economic and cultural conditions experienced in rural Malawi.
The WCW model presents a detailed description and the practical aspects of an Integrated Homestead for Food Security and Sustainable Living
in a village in Malawi.
This permaculture model for food production is designed so that it can easily be replicated by people living in Malawian villages, with the goal of make the conversion of farmers to agro-ecological food production approaches easier,
addressing the challenges that discourage many of them.

The training of farmers in the permaculture technique which is a way to cultivate their lands in a sustainable, eco-friendly way and that, in turn, maximizes the number of crops per year, allowing them to be almost self-sufficient in the basic food basket
Before
Selection of participants (they own a ¼ acre field) from the villages around our area.
During
The people are trained in the WCW demonstration plot in creating Permaculture House Gardens where they have the opportunity to see the crops in the field growing (so they have some reassurance that the crops are growing). We also provide them with a tools starting-pack to work in the field.
After
After training they are asked to create their own House Gardens. They receive support from us in the field and they receive extra day of training back in our site. The House Garden can be grown at any season.
When they have their own house garden to demonstrate to friends and neighbors in their villages, we support them in organizing their own farmer-to-farmer trainings.
From We Change the World we develop a sustainable reforestation of degraded pastures procuring seeds from local dealers to boost the local economy

The total cost of the course (including the starting pack as shown below -tools, seeds, a goat and some chicken-) and the supervision of an expert in permaculture for the first year is 100€. In this way, we reassure that they are implementing the technique in the right way.
